Frequently Asked Questions

One way to explain what we do and how we do it is to answer some of the questions you're likely to ask, so here's our list of frequently asked questions.

What do you do? We're an I.T. and software development consultancy that helps you navigate the world of I.T. systems, solutions providers and software R&D. Think of us as your part time R&D/Technical Director or CTO. We'll help you make good decisions and deliver great solutions.

Do you write software? Yes and we can project manage new or existing software development projects. For example we use a business platform designed and built for us using open source technology which replaced several off the shelf systems.

How do you do it? We've learnt from experience how to quickly deliver (via Agile and SCRUM methodologies and via architectural process like TOGAF's ADM ) cost effective solutions using open source, cloud (hosted) and mobile platforms. We use that experience to deliver cheaper, more reliable and efficient software products and business I.T. solutions. Read more here

Do you supply and support vendor solutions? Sometimes. We track technologies, selecting the best and recommending them if they fit your business needs. We have some pre-selected products and services companies we trust & recommend.

Can you manage our vendor relationships? Yes, if you put us on a retainer we're happy to manage your vendor relationships so you can focus on your business not the technology supporting it. We take the sales calls.

What locations do you cover? In the UK we cover a radius of 50 miles from central London. In Australia a radius of about 80 kilometres from central Sydney. We prefer the London M4/M40 corridor and central Sydney.

What are your rates? They average £39 (AUD/US $64) per hour, more for short tasks, dropping for longer projects. Do you want us on a retainer? The fees are a fraction of a salary giving you the benefit of an experienced technology person without the associated costs.

'Off the shelf' software

We offer an alternative approach to creating software/IT systems. We don't limit our selections to the well known brands we actively seek out new innovative solutions. The following are important when selecting I.T solutions to solve business problems.

  • Is the solution actively maintained
  • Testimonials & case studies
  • Systems interoperability
  • Open systems with no data lock in
  • Do vendor staff respond quickly
  • Do they use their own products
  • Can customisations be made
  • Are their products nice to use!

Writing software

Whilst there are many off the shelf software systems, and many can be customised, sometimes a business has a unique requirement.

If we really do think a custom software system is needed we're ideally placed to project manage this from design to delivery.
